Do you ever feel, well… ordinary? I sure do.

I thought by this stage of life I’d have it all together. I’d be living my dream. I’d be successful beyond imagination. I’d be “somebody.” I’d be a princess… Ok, but I thought my life would be different from the way it looks now. You know what I mean?

I’ve found that rather than becoming more focused as I’ve aged, my life feels more scattered. I’m a wife, a mother of an adult son, a mother-in-love, and a grandma. I’m a daughter and caregiver of an aging mom and the wife of a hubby suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. I’m a writer, a speaker, and a prayer minister. I’m a seminary student! I’m a Boomer, facing all the joys and challenges of that life stage.  Sometimes it’s easy to feel I’ve missed my calling.

But have I? I don’t think so. What I’ve realized is that as crazy as my life feels, I’m pretty ordinary. I face many of the same joys and challenges as other women my age. The same challenges you face.

But here’s the deal. I’m not just ordinary. I’m an ordinary woman pursuing splendor!

Yeah? What does that mean? Well, Isaiah 61:3 tells me that I am a mighty oak of righteousness, a planting for the display of HIS splendor. My life, including its craziness, is not random. It’s a deliberate planting of the Lord with a deliberate purpose–His splendor.

Splendor! How unordinary! Sure, I can choose to be ordinary. Or I can choose to be splendid. I can choose to make every day, every challenge, an opportunity to become everything that God created me to be. If you want to be splendid, I invite you to join me on this journey? Let’s pursue splendor with everything that is within us. Even when it feels random. Let’s find the splendid in every day. Even when we feel …  ordinary.

I’ll share my journey with you on my blog and share resources with you on Mighty Oak Ministries. I also have more small group resources on Why Didn’t You Warn Me?  I hope you’ll join the conversation at wherever points fit you. If you’d like to book me to speak to your group, my speaker page will give you the details.
